Optik Oldschool is a fast-growing German film brand from Dusseldorf that recently became a genuine film manufacturer after acquiring the historic InovisCoat and FilmoTec coating facilities behind ORWO film. Compare Optik Oldschool film prices on Filmproof.
Optik Oldschool was founded in May 2023 in Dusseldorf, Germany, by Chris Vandebroek and Carsten, starting life as the "Film Killer" processing tool and a photo lab before expanding into film itself, initially developing its OptiColour 200 stock in partnership with the German coating specialist InovisCoat.
The brand's story took a major turn in July 2026, when founder Chris Vandebroek acquired InovisCoat, based in Monheim am Rhein, along with FilmoTec, also known as Original Wolfen, in Wolfen, Bitterfeld, the same historic facilities responsible for coating ORWO film. Almost overnight, Optik Oldschool went from a small boutique lab to owning one of the very few remaining full-scale film manufacturing operations in the world, a genuinely significant and recent development in the film photography industry.
OptiColour 200 is a C-41 colour negative film available in both 35mm and 120 format, developed together with InovisCoat before Optik Oldschool took ownership of that facility. OptiMono 100 is a black and white negative film rated at ISO 100 in 35mm, and SantaColor 800 revives the "Santa Film" name as a faster colour negative option. The brand also produces large format film and darkroom chemistry and lab supplies.
OptiColour 200 is a versatile everyday colour choice available in both small and medium format, while OptiMono 100 suits bright conditions and fine detail in black and white. Given Optik Oldschool's new ownership of major manufacturing facilities, it's a brand worth watching closely as its range develops. Compare Optik Oldschool film prices on Filmproof.
